Baggage handling company looking for innovative alternatives

Founded in 2000, a Portuguese baggage handling company with over eighty airline clients operating out of Lisbon airport provides airport services across cargo, passengers, ramps and operations. The company is an active advocate of sustainability and has been consistently implementing initiatives to deliver on both.

One of the challenges the company is yet to solve is providing transportation to and from work for its large workforce. Due to the diverse shift and locations, the existing transportation infrastructure is not capable of coping.

The business employees have to park in the airport parking lots, which are nearing capacity, even though it has been extended especially for the employees.

Problem statement: The baggage handling company has requested support in delivering an array of alternatives for their employees' parking and transportation challenge.

A good solution: May look at the cycling infrastructure of the region. High-quality cycling schemes are expensive, though and cost around £1.3 million per kilometre, which compares to around £50 million for road schemes.
A well-thought-out answer: May look at using existing transportation resources like the shuttle bus service, which is used in the airport to pick up employees from pick-up points. This solution may also consider car sharing and building an app so employees can see where a car share is available.

A distinctive answer: Will analyse the macro environment and tailor a solution specific to the social, economic and environmental conditions of the region and develop a solution which reduces the carbon footprint of the company.
